Murad Agha Mosque is a historical mosque dating back to the Ottoman era, located in the coastal city of Tajura, east of the Libyan capital, Tripoli. The mosque was built in the middle of 16th century AD by the Ottoman ruler of Tripoli at the time, Murad Agha who was buried in the mosque. The mosque was built during the brief occupation of Tripoli by the Spaniards and the Knights of St John (1510-1551) in the area known as Tajura, to which the Tripoli Arab leaders fled until Tripoli was reconquered after a brief siege in 1551. The mosque was designed to be a fortress, as well as a mosque, and contains several Roman marble columns.
